These essay types usually use many sensory details. The essay might be a list-like description, which provides point-by-point particulars. A definition essay tries to determine a special term. It might try to define the meaning of a particular word, or identify an abstract idea. The analysis goes much deeper than a dictionary definition; it needs to try to explain why the definition is determined as such. It might determine the term directly, providing no information than the clarification of the definition. Or, it might imply the term’s definition, narrating a story, which requires the audience to deduce the meaning.
