Choose your Essay Type

An essay is a brief piece of writing, which discusses, analyzes, or describes one subject matter. It may discuss a subject indirectly or directly, humorously or seriously depending on essay types and the target of this assignment. It may describe personal points of view, or just give information. An essay may be created from any perspective, but commonly essays are made in the first person, or third person.
There are many essay types, which differ in their aims but have similar structure.
For example, the descriptive essay gives details about how something feels, looks, tastes, sounds, makes one feel, or smells. Also, it can depict what something is, or how something occurred. These essay types usually use many sensory details. The essay might be a list-like description, which provides point-by-point particulars. Or, it might as a story, holding the audience interested in the theme and plot of the happening described.
A definition essay tries to determine a special term. It might try to define the meaning of a particular word, or identify an abstract idea. The analysis goes much deeper than a dictionary definition; it needs to try to explain why the definition is determined as such. It might determine the term directly, providing no information than the clarification of the definition. Or, it might imply the term’s definition, narrating a story, which requires the audience to deduce the meaning.
The cause/effect essay clarifies how or why some event occurred, and what caused from the event. This type of essay is an inquiry of the relationship between several experiences or events. The essay might discuss both reasons and results, or it might just address one or other.
